Welcome to the OSU Welding and Joining Metallurgy Group website. The Group currently consists of one Research Scientist, 5 PhD candidates, 2 MS candidates, and 2 undergraduate students. Within the last few months, 5 students have graduated from the group. Shu Shi (Shell), Seth Norton (BP), and Nathan Nissley (ExxonMobil) have all headed to Houston with their PhDs to work in the oil/gas/energy industry. Jeff Sowards and Matt Gonser completed their MS degrees and are now pursuing PhD degrees at OSU.
Based on his research on welding fume, Jeff Sowards recently received the Henri Granjon International Student Paper Award from the International Institute of Welding. In Spring 2006, Melissa Rubal - one of our undergraduate research associates - won 4th place in OSU's Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. In October, the group will be strongly represented at the AWS Annual conference in Atlanta - presenting a total of 6 papers.
I encourage you to check the website for other activities and research projects within the group. I particularly encourage the group alumni to stay in touch so that we can keep our alumni website current.
